NunaBio wins Accelerating Innovation Award at CPHI Frankfurt
Newcastle University spin-out NunaBio has been awarded the prestigious Accelerating Innovation Award at CPHI Frankfurt, recognising its pioneering work in synthetic DNA manufacturing.
The award celebrates NunaBio’s NB-3 micro-foundry platform — a breakthrough technology that enables scalable, high-fidelity DNA production. Developed in collaboration with BNC Engineering, NB-3 is helping transform the biotech landscape by making synthetic DNA faster, more sustainable, and more accessible.
Based at The Biosphere on the Newcastle Helix innovation district, NunaBio is part of a thriving ecosystem of science and technology companies. Newcastle University is a co-owner of Helix, and the site plays a key role in connecting world-class research with commercial opportunity.
Joe Hedley, CEO of NunaBio, said:
“This award is a huge moment for NunaBio. NB-3 represents years of hard work, innovation, and belief in the power of synthetic biology to change the world. I’m incredibly proud of our team and grateful to BNC Engineering for their collaboration. Together, we’re building the future of DNA manufacturing.”
The CPHI win is the second major award NunaBio has received this autumn, following its Innovation of the Year accolade at the Pharma Industry Awards UK.
These achievements mark a significant milestone in NunaBio’s journey from university research to global industry recognition — and reflect Newcastle University’s growing success in creating high-impact spin-out companies.
We’re proud to support emerging and early-stage technologies, and we welcome interest from investors and experienced executives who want to connect with the next generation of research-led innovation
