Personal Information


I recently retired after teaching for 25 years in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University. I have published two novels, articles (mostly on writing process) and short stories in a variety of magazines, and several book chapters.


The Royal Literary Fund is a charity which supports the Literary Arts in over 40 universities in the UK. The service is free and confidential.

Teaching

My purpose at Newcastle is to assist students with the processes of writing essays, including structure, syntax, register and style. We can also look at practical issues such as such as planning, researching and time management.


I have taught at all levels, both undergraduate and post-graduate. I have supervised over 20 PhDs in both English and Creative Writing.
