About us

Located at the International Centre for Life, within Newcastle University’s Biosciences Institute, the Genomics Core Facility (GCF) is a state of the art next-generation sequencing (NGS) service provider specialising in single-cell applications.

Our team has extensive experience in project management and service delivery, drawn from a background working with customers in the academic, commercial, and healthcare sectors.

Established by Dr Jonathan Coxhead in 2015, the GCF's role is to ensure that Newcastle University remains at the forefront of genomics research, at both the macro and single-cell level.

Single-Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics

Our single-cell applications are focussed around the 10X Genomics Chromium platform, plate-based methods, and enrichment using laser capture micro-dissection (LMD). As one of the first groups in the UK to adopt spatial gene expression profiling, we offer 'Spatially Resolved Transcriptomics At Newcastle' (SpaRTAN) as a 'first in Europe' 10X Genomics Certified Service Provider.

Scalable Technologies and Applications

All of our platforms offer scalable solutions, providing the flexibility to work with us on everything from small proof-of-principle experiments through to large discovery research projects or programme scale studies. Our instruments include next-generation sequencing, real-time PCR, and droplet digital PCR.
