What to expect
Each provider offers something different, so you’ll need to do your research to ensure that it’s the right option for you. Example experiences include:
supporting communities in Northern Peru
joining the Sustainable Global Experience Programme in either Amsterdam or Brussels
working with NGO’s in various locations across projects in Sri Lanka, Morocco and Nepal
These global experiences often benefit from being ‘packaged’. This means that accommodation, in-country transport, excursions, and some food are included in the price.
The duration of the trips will vary from a few days to a few weeks.

Absolute Internship provides Internship opportunities with over 1,200 corporate partners in Barcelona, Beijing, Hong Kong, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Paris, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Stockholm and Tokyo.
Their mission is to create meaningful internship programs for students, enabling them to develop marketable skills and stand out as future applicants in an increasingly competitive job market.
They offer both in-person and remote programs in a wide variety of industries including Business Development, Marketing, Finance, Architecture, Legal, Information Technology and more.
EcoSwell is a multiple award-winning non-profit based in the surfing paradise of northern Peru, co-founded by Newcastle University Alumni, Michael Alderson. Their work is focussed on implementing sustainable development projects in Peru's vulnerable communities, to help improve people's lives and help restore degraded ecosystems.
Previous students have described their time at EcoSwell as transformational and life-altering. Those interested can apply to take part in their volunteer program and join the following projects: renewable energy, ecosystem restoration and reforestation, water & sanitation, public health (medical and dentistry), NGO management, research, and marketing.
Pagoda programmes are open to UG students who meet our Widening Participation criteria and are paying home tuition fees
Virtual/In-Person
Pagoda projects prepares students for the future of work and works towards UN Sustainable Development Goals 8 and 10 by promoting positive international relations through work and cultural exchange. Students will develop a range of hard and soft skills with a focus on employability and cultural/digital competency.
Pagoda Projects offers two main programmes:
Blended Internships in Lisbon, Madrid, Bangkok, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City – spend four weeks on a virtual placement and four weeks in country!
Sustainable Global Experience Programme in either Amsterdam or Brussels – a twelve day programme combining online carbon literacy training with a field trip to either Amsterdam or Brussels. Please check the website for further eligibility criteria.
Play Action International is an organisation that creates opportunities for children in Africa to learn, develop and heal through play-based activities. With over a decade of experience, Play Action International provides sustainable programmes led by local communities in Kenya and Uganda.
Think Pacific is a UK social enterprise and registered international charity, which works with local partners to achieve ethical, responsible, and sustainable development in Fiji and Bali, whilst allowing university students to have a safe, structured, and rewarding experience.

What is a Remote Internship? Remote internships are internships that are completed online or remotely from your home. All you need is a computer, phone and internet connection. Think Pacific will connect you with real life projects supporting communities in the Fiji islands. As well as providing insightful mentoring, coaching and support to help you contribute to global issues.

Travelteer works with NGOs in various locations across projects such as Mental Health, Community Development, English Development, and Sports to create programmes that operate within local communities. They utilise volunteers skill sets to provide support for their programmes in Sri Lanka, Morocco, and Nepal. Not only does Travelteer offer life-changing volunteering programmes, but the opportunity to explore and travel.
Operation Wallacea design and implement biodiversity and conservation management research expeditions, based in Croatia, South Africa, Mexico, Honduras, Madagascar and Indonesia. Research is supported by students who join the programme, to strengthen their CV or resume or collect data for a dissertation or thesis. FIE is a not-for-profit organisation that specializes in creating exciting globally focussed educational experiences for students. In particular, they host the Student Global Leadership Conference, a yearly event focussing on sustainability, diversity and inclusivity, social justice and human rights. This year, the conference is on Leadership and Mental Health: Equal Opportunities to Thrive which aims to explore the growing issue of self-care and wellbeing within our workspaces. Students who attend are able to network with their peers and otherleadership professionals, engage with keynote speakers and presentations and take away practical tools and skills for implementation into their own work-lives!
The conference takes place 5-6th April 2024 and is both in-person (London) and online. The conference itself offers scholarship opportunities.
