Published on: 22 March 2022

Newcastle Law School has launched a new online Master in Laws (LL.M.) degree programme in Mediation and International Commercial Dispute Resolution.

Working with online education provider Mediator Academy to deliver the programme, the new skills-based course has been designed to meet the demands for quality, specialised education in international commercial dispute resolution. This is an area which is seeing exponential growth internationally.

Mediator Academy has a strong track record in working with universities to design and deliver in-demand skills-based postgraduate and professional education.

The new programme at Newcastle University blends theory and practice and features a global faculty of expert academics and practitioners working at the cutting edge of dispute resolution. Students can participate in this interactive programme, online from anywhere in the world, learning through a combination of flexible self-directed and live group sessions. The course will also give them an opportunity to undertake specialised postgraduate education, specific to their career aspirations and professional goals.

Head of Newcastle Law School, Dr Jonathan Galloway, said: “The business community and practising lawyers from the UK to Singapore, from New Delhi to Dubai, and San Francisco to Lagos are recognising the benefits of further training and skills development in mediation and dispute resolution. I am delighted that Newcastle Law School is further expanding its strong reputation and activity in this field. In partnering with the Mediator Academy to provide an immersive and flexible online degree programme we are providing new skills for graduates and busy professionals no matter where they are based and taking full advantage of technology to provide an outstanding 21st century online education.”

The programme focuses on international commercial mediation as part of the evolving dispute resolution landscape. Regulatory developments and the demand from commercial clients for a more efficient and effective way to resolve disputes has put mediation at the centre of legal practice. Globally, the skills and strategies of dispute resolution are being employed to tackle the big challenges arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and political instability

Applications are open now for the LL.M. degree programme which starts in September 2022. For more information visit: https://www.ncl.ac.uk/law/study/masters/
