BBC TikTok Masterclass

TikTok and Reels for news journalism - BBC masterclass on campus 24th April

Learn how to create video-led social content for the next generation of news “consumers”.

Meet Tash Salmon of the social media team at BBC News in-person and on campus and she shows us how to make news videos for TikTok and Reels.

As news publishers and journalists try to reach and engage new audiences, they’re learning to pivot to video-led social content and news on the platforms where younger people spend most time, such as TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

In this masterclass, you’ll discover what the best short-form video storytellers are doing and pick up tips and tricks for your own vertical-video journalism.

Our speaker for this two-hour masterclass is Tash Salmon, Senior Journalist for BBC News Socials. Previously Associate Digital Editor and Audience Editor for The i Paper, Tash is now based at the BBC in Salford where she produces content for BBC News social channels, including its TikTok account (3.2m followers), Instagram (27.5m followers) and YouTube (15.9m followers).

This free masterclass on Wednesday 24th April from 2pm to 4pm (UK time) is brought to you by the Civic Journalism Lab at Newcastle University. It's free and open to anyone, but registration is essential as we'll email you details of the lecture theatre etc a few hours before the event begins.
