North East Solidarity and Teaching (NEST) is a multi-award-winning, student-led project based at Newcastle University Students’ Union. NEST supports refugees and people seeking asylum across the region through English language provision and community-focused sessions. Running five days a week and welcoming learners of all ages, NEST aims to create an inclusive and supportive environment where participants can develop their English skills, build confidence, and access support to help them integrate into society.
As the Film Project Officer you will work in partnership with Critical Connections at Goldsmiths University. You will support sanctuary-seeking pupils creating multilingual digital stories for their annual film festival, helping volunteers deliver sessions and develop ideas. The role involves:
- guiding pupils through the creative process, helping them explore themes, develop ideas, and express their experiences through film
- supporting and mentoring volunteers delivering sessions, offering structure, resources, and creative direction
- fostering a safe and inclusive space for storytelling
As the Film Project Officer you will empower pupils’ voices, build confidence, and encourage collaboration, while contributing to a meaningful, creative project with real-world recognition.
