Student Health Hub
The Student Health Hub brings together health and wellbeing services for students at both Newcastle University and Northumbria University - all under one roof, no referral needed.
What is the Hub?
The Student Health Hub is a new jointly delivered service from Newcastle University and Northumbria University, working together with NHS and community partners. Instead of navigating lots of different services separately, you can come to one space, talk to someone, and be guided straight to the right support - whether that's on the day or through a booked follow-up.
It's designed for early support, before things reach crisis point, and to make sure nothing falls through the gaps between services.
Important: This Hub is an additional service and does not replace the need to register with a local GP practice or the use of wider NHS services. Please register with a GP as soon as possible if you haven't already and always call 999 or go to A&E in an emergency.
When and where
- When: Every Friday, 9:30am–12:30pm
- Where: Level 2, King’s Gate, Newcastle University, Barras Bridge, NE1 7RU
- Do I need to book? No - it's a drop-in, walk-in service.
Who it's for
Open to all students at Newcastle University and Northumbria University - however you're feeling, whatever stage you're at. You don't need to know exactly what kind of support you need before you come; that's what the Hub is for.
What can I come to the Hub for?
There's no such thing as too small, too big, or "not the right kind of problem." Here are just some of the things people come to the Hub for:
- Physical health worries or GP-type issues
- Mental health and wellbeing support
- Sexual health advice or concerns
- Domestic abuse or violence
- Support after sexual violence or assault
- Drug or alcohol use
- Housing problems, or worries about where you're living
- Money and finance worries
- Support around a disability
- Academic stress or concerns affecting your studies
- Anything else — if you're not sure it fits, bring it anyway
You don't need to know what "category" your problem falls into before you come. Just come and speak to the team.
What services are available?
As part of the Student Health Hub, you can access a range of University and community partner support including:
- GP services from Saville Medical Group
- Everyturn Mental Health
- Brook
- Newcastle Treatment and Recovery (NTaR)
- NHS (CNTW)
- Wellbeing services from Newcastle University and Northumbria University
Not sure which one you need? That's no problem – you can discuss your needs with one of the team and together work out which support is required.
How it works?
- Walk in - no appointment needed. Come along and someone will welcome you at reception. When you arrive, we'll take a few basic details (name, student ID, course), ask if you have any accessibility needs and talk you through consent – what's shared, with who, and why – before anything else happens.
- Have a quick chat (triage) with a member of the team - a brief, friendly conversation to understand what would help, and who's best placed to support you.
- Access support – either on the day or via a booked follow up appointment, access on-site services with a university team, or an NHS/community partner, plus self-help resources or a safety plan if that's useful.
- Stay supported - with your consent, we'll let the right people know what's been agreed, so you don't have to repeat your story.
How do I locate the Hub?
King’s Gate is located on Newcastle University Campus and is across the road from St. Thomas's Green and the Civic Centre. It is a 2-minute walk from Haymarket Metro Station.
King’s Gate is located here on Google Maps and is building number 1 on our Campus and City Maps.
Is it confidential?
Yes, in general. Anything you share is treated as confidential and only passed to other teams with your consent. The one exception is if something you tell us suggests you or someone else may be at serious risk of harm – in that case we may need to share it to keep you or someone else safe, even without consent. Wherever possible, we'll talk to you first about what that means.
What if I'm in crisis right now?
If you are in crisis now, please seek help immediately. Visit our Urgent Help webpage for numbers and details of services you can contact.
If you or another student is at immediate risk, call 999.
Important — please read
Important: This Hub is an additional service and does not replace the need to register with a local GP practice or to use wider NHS services such as A&E. Please continue to register with a GP as soon as possible if you haven't already and always call 999 or go to A&E in an emergency.
We strongly encourage every student to register with a local GP as soon as you arrive at university, even if you're feeling well - this ensures you have ongoing access to healthcare beyond what the Hub can offer. In an emergency, always call 999 or go to A&E; the Hub operates limited hours (Fridays only) and is not equipped for emergencies.
