Become a Student Leader
Newcastle University Students’ Union (NUSU) supports more than 150 student-led societies, covering everything from academic subjects and the arts to culture, fundraising and shared interests.
Joining a society is a great way to meet new people. Become a Principal Committee member and help lead the society, organise activities and support its members. Principal Committee roles include President, Secretary, Treasurer, Welfare Officer and Social Secretary.
As a Society Welfare Officer you have the opportunity to:
- promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
- act as a wellbeing contact
- signposts to support services where needed
- liaise with the Students' Union Support and Advice Hub
To join the Principal Committee of an existing society, you must be a paid member of that society and nominate yourself when elections open during the academic year.
Or start your own new society in term one by forming a full Principal Committee, setting clear aims and gaining at least 15 paid members within three months to achieve full ratification and receive support from NUSU.
