Support for students affected by the flood at the Nepal-Tibet border
Find out what support is available if you or your family have been affected by the flooding.
28 August 2026
Dear students,
You will have seen the media reports about the flash flood at the Nepal-Tibet border and the ongoing rescue operations in the area.
While the full extent of the impact is not yet known, I know you will all join me in sending our heartfelt thoughts and condolences to all those who have lost loved ones or have been impacted by this disaster.
Within our own community, there will be students, colleagues and alumni with links to the region, and we wanted to remind you that support is available.
Our Student Health and Wellbeing team have already written out to students where our records show they have family or close links to Nepal and Tibet.
This is to offer practical and wellbeing support at this worrying time and includes a link to our Student Financial Support for any students who may be struggling to access funds in light of the disaster.
More information about the support available for students can be found at https://www.ncl.ac.uk/wellbeing/.
If you, or anyone else, has not been contacted directly but is in need of support or advice, then please do not hesitate to contact our Chaplaincy team: chaplaincy@ncl.ac.uk; or our Welfare team: wellbeingconsultancy@ncl.ac.uk.
with my best wishes,
Yvonne Chase
