Opportunity to participate in a short film showing older women taking part in sports

Date/Time: Monday 15th - Tuesday 16th January 2018

Venue: University Sports Centre

Professor Karen Ross is part of a city-wide consortium developing a slate of activities to celebrate the centenary of the Representation of the People Act which began the process of women’s suffrage and International Women’s Day.

One of the activities involves making a film about older women’s involvement in sports and active life.  Riffing on Sport England’s uplifting series of films which show women and girls being active (This Girl Can), the project is called This Nan Can - although you don’t have to actually be a Nan to participate!).  The aim of the project is to produce a short film which will show older women being active, and also to encourage more older women to get involved in activities, not least as a way to get healthy and make new friends.  The film will be screened on International Women’s Day at the City Library, at Exhibition Park as part of the City Council’s ThisGirlCan activities on International Women's Day on the 8th of March.

You are invited to participate in one (or both) activity taster sessions which take place in the University sports centre, which will be filmed for ThisNanCan.
