Attending the 77th Annual Spring Meeting of the European Dental Students Association (EDSA) in Amsterdam was a really exciting opportunity. I felt privileged to be part of this meeting as the UK delegate.
As a final-year dental student, it has come at a particularly important stage in my training. It has given me the chance to broaden my perspective on dentistry beyond the UK. It was an opportunity not only to represent UK dental students, but also to learn from others. As well as exchanging ideas and observing how dental education and practice differ across Europe.
One of the most memorable parts of the conference has been meeting dental students from so many different countries and hearing about their experiences. It has been really interesting to compare clinical training, university life, and the different challenges students face depending on where they study. Although there are clear differences in how dentistry is taught and delivered, I was surprised by how similar our shared values are. This was particularly clear around patient care, professionalism, and the desire to keep improving.
I would definitely recommend the conference to other students next year. It is a great way to step outside your usual environment and build confidence. As well as gaining a broader understanding of dentistry as an international profession. For me, this experience has been both inspiring and grounding. It has made me more open-minded and reflective, and I think it will shape my future as a dentist by encouraging me to stay curious, adaptable, and aware of different ways of practising. Above all, it has reminded me that dentistry is not just about technical skill, but also about collaboration, communication, and learning from others.
