• The role of host-pathogen interactions in oral diseases and the links between oral and systemic diseases.

• The role of neuroendocrine mediator signalling systems (e.g., the cholinergic system) in the aetiopathogenesis of oral inflammatory and associated systemic diseases.

• Novel complex models of mucosal surfaces to investigate host-pathogen interactions and the bidirectional neuroendocrine cross talk between complex biofilms and the host barrier defences.
