Our School community

We're committed to ensuring that opportunities are open to everyone, and all are able to flourish and succeed.

It's important that each and every member of our School community feels valued and respected. They should feel that they are able to achieve their potential both within the School and the University. 

To help support this, we have our own GPS Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, who ‌support our commitment to meeting the guidelines set out in our School Equality Charter Awards.

Athena SWAN Bronze Award

Our School achieved an Athena SWAN Bronze award in September 2017.

The Athena SWAN Charter recognises the commitment of institutions and departments to:

  • address gender equalities
  • tackle the unequal representation of women in higher education
  • improve career progression for female academics

Newcastle University was successful in achieving a Silver institutional award in April 2016. We are one of only nine institutions in the UK to hold a Silver award, demonstrating the impact of our activities.

Newcastle is an inclusive community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
