Geography Undergraduate Degrees

Enjoy a rich study experience with our School. Take part in fantastic fieldwork opportunities, both within the UK and abroad.

Flexible degree programmes

Our degree programmes offer flexibility, diversity, and the chance to specialise.

  • BA and BSc Geography degrees allow you to tailor your degree to your interests and evolve into the geographer you want to be.
  • Our BSc Physical Geography degree offers a more specialised and structured pathway.

Research-led teaching

Our students learn from lecturers who are at the cutting edge of their disciplines.

We focus on real-world challenges such as climate change, sustainability, spatial and social inequalities, natural hazards, social justice, economic development, international geopolitics, and international development.

In the last Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment we were ranked in the top 10 Geography departments in the UK, and third for research impact

In 2021 we were ranked 11th for Geography in the influential Academic Rankings of World Universities.

Study abroad

As a Geography student you will have the opportunity to spend the year studying at one of our international partner universities. Studying abroad is a great opportunity to:

  • explore the world
  • learn a new language and discover new cultures
  • meet new people and build your confidence

Spending a year studying abroad can help you learn more about yourself. You'll get to study at one of our prestigious partner universities. You will also be able to deepen your academic learning and develop skills, setting you apart from other graduates.

Skills to succeed

We embed enterprise and employability across all three stages of our degree programmes. A geography degree from Newcastle allows you to develop the key skills and expertise sought after by employers.

Our students can opt to spend a year in industry and have access to the University's award winning careers service.

In recent years, around 90% of our students have entered employment or postgraduate study within six months of graduation. Read more about some of our recent graduate's career journeys
