A StoryMap series co-created by glacial geologist, Dr Bethan Davies, has been awarded a Silver Publishers Award by the Geographical Association.
The ‘Hidden Landscapes of Greenland’ series received the award at the Geographical Association’s April 2025 conference. Co-produced by Dr Davies and colleagues at Durham University, Dr Guy Paxman and Edmund Lea, the collection examines the landscape beneath the Greenland Ice Sheet.
What are StoryMaps?
The four Greenland StoryMaps use images and interactive tools to help readers understand:
- Where Greenland is
- What lies beneath the ice of Greenland
- How ice shapes Greenland
- What Greenland was like in the past
Launched in May 2024, the freely available resources is hosted on Bethan’s website, AntarticGlaciers.org. The collection is aimed to support GCSE and A-Level students (aged 16-18) with their learning.
As well as the StoryMaps, the pack also includes video interviews, images, a scheme of work, and links to the sections of the A-Level syllabus to which it is relevant.

About the Awards
The Geographical Association Publishers’ Awards recognise resources that make a significant contribution to geography in primary schools, secondary schools or colleges, and encourage the creative development of new materials. The judges consider impact, quality, usability and originality.
Bethan commented:
‘It’s great to be recognised for our work on this collaborative project which seeks to enrich learning for school-aged students.’
