About Beth

I am a CEO and Founder of Care to Dance, a national charity that supports care-experienced young people through trauma-informed dance.

I previously practiced as a social worker and am passionate about supporting care-experienced young people to find belonging through spaces of movement and expression.

Project description

My research project explores the lived experience of care-experienced young people when engaging in trauma-informed dance. Through episodic narrative interviews, I am to explore the impact that dance can have on a care-experienced young person, including how they might experience a felt sense of community and belonging.

Using IPA, I am developing an understanding of the meaning derived between the research participant and myself as a researcher. I hope that this research project will inform and facilitate wider political discussions surrounding the cultural entitlement of care-experienced young people, and the movement in conversation across sectors surrounding the necessity of trauma-informed practice.

Personal interests

Dance, exercise, trauma-informed practice, social justice.

Presentations

I have undertaken a range of presentations in the social care and arts sector.
