Quantitative Research in Politics

We promote and support quantitative research in all sub-fields of politics and International relations.

About

The Newcastle Quantitative Research in Politics group aims to promote and support quantitative research in all sub-fields of Politics.

The group offers a platform for discussion, feedback and collaborative research that brings together a community of researchers using quantitative methods to study politics.

We further aim to encourage collaborative research using quantitative methods within the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS), and the North East region more broadly.

Our core areas of expertise include:

  • Survey research
  • Text as data
  • Machine learning and AI
  • Experimental methods
  • Network analysis

Core Group Activities

The group offers a forum for discussing ongoing research and gaining valuable feedback.

With the Centre for Institutions and Political Behaviour at Durham University, we co-organise the North-East Research Development Workshop (NERD), holding regular meetings during term time and annual in-person workshops.

We also regularly organise methods training workshops for our community of researchers, with past sessions covering topics such as Experimental Methods and Social Media Data Analysis.
