Careers in Clinical Education

Clinical Academic Careers

At the School of Medicine we offer students and trainees a wide range of research opportunities.

These include ‘Student Selected Component’ placements or Vacation Studentships.

We also supervise medical trainees in the Northern Academic Foundation Programme and NIHR Integrated Academic Training pathways (Academic Clinical Fellows and Academic Clinical Lecturers). These exciting programmes allow trainees to progress their academic skills and interest, whilst continuing with clinical training.

We promote a learner-centred approach, and so support students and trainees to develop a project in their area of interest.

The School of Medicine and School of Dental Sciences at Newcastle University host the NIHR Incubator for Clinical Education.

The Incubator is a new national research network, which aims to support careers of talented clinicians, across all healthcare disciplines, and all training stages.
