Street Law

Street Law

In September 2011, a meeting with representatives from local Youth Groups identified a lack of advice and support available for children and young people regarding their general and legal rights. Working with local Youth Groups, primary and secondary schools, our Street Law Ambassadors (SLAs) have developed materials on legal issues such as police powers, access to legal advice, rights at school, street drinking and transitions into adulthood.

The Street Law project develops and evolves every year, led by the student SLAs. Most recently, the SLAs have been working closely with Roots and Wings to develop the logos seen on this page. These logos were designed specifically for two age groups:

  • our younger age group, 6-12 year olds, are known as the ‘Street Law Explorers’
  • and we use the ‘Scales of Justice’ logo for the 13-17 year olds.

The logos feature on another new resource: leaflets covering some of the topics that the students deliver information sessions on, which can be handed out at the end of sessions. Finally, to acknowledge participation in our sessions, attendees will now receive a Street Law certificate of attendance (13-17 year olds) or a Street Law sticker (7-12 year olds).
