Luke Green is a Research Associate at Insights North East, which he joined in January 2025 after completing a PhD in Economic Geography at Newcastle University’s Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS).
Luke is a geographer and political economist with research and policy-engagement interests in the financing and governance of urban and regional development. His PhD examined the changing approaches adopted by UK universities to the financing and funding of their capital investment programmes, and the implications of these for institutional financial governance and urban development.
At Insights North East, Luke works with academics and policymakers to deliver more inclusive and sustainable economic development in the North East region. In doing so, he draws on research expertise on urban innovation, regional economic development, and housing market access, among other topics.
Previously, Luke was Research Manager at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), where he co-ordinated the Society’s engagement with universities and university researchers, and its promotion of world-class geographical research. He has extensive experience in managing large-scale events and projects in university and policy settings.
Luke holds an MA in Human Geography Research from Newcastle University (UK), and a BSc in Geography from the University of Edinburgh.
