Postgraduate Geography

We're an internationally recognised centre for research and teaching. Choose Geography at Newcastle for postgraduate study and we'll help you realise your potential.

Vibrant research environment

Our postgraduate geography degrees have a strong track record of research council collaborative funding through the NINE DTP, the Northern Bridge DTP and the IAPETUS partnership.

Our vibrant research environment attracts people from very diverse backgrounds, ensuring you are part of an international community of researchers. We have a diverse community of PhD, MRes and MA students.

Postgraduates play a vital role in the academic life of our department and are an integral part of our teaching programme and our research.

Inter-disciplinary research environment

As part of the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology, we are also able to provide the benefits of an inter-disciplinary research environment for students working on topics that cross disciplinary boundaries.

Whether you are a prospective MA or MRes student or a PhD candidate, we invite you to join us at Newcastle and to contribute to our continuing success.

Support for postgraduate students

We also offer supervision for research degrees at PhD and MPhil levels. If you are interested in registering for a PhD or MPhil with us, you are encouraged to make contact with relevant members of staff prior to applying in order to discuss your research interests and to establish whether we can provide supervision for your proposed project. Information on staff research interests can be found under our Human Geography and Physical Geography pages.

We provide high quality facilities for all of our postgraduate students, including a dedicated postgraduate office and computing suite. We have a student-run postgraduate committee, and students hold regular reading groups, conferences and social events.
