Staff Profile
Dr Emad Eddien Hussein, FCIArb, is an international arbitrator, accredited mediator, legal counsel, and academic with over two decades of experience in complex cross-border dispute resolution. He holds two PhDs—one in International Commercial Arbitration from SOAS, University of London, and another in International Business Management from the International School of Management, New York—as well as LLM degrees from Queen Mary University of London and Newcastle University.
He currently serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy (SIDRA) and as Senior Advisor to the Casablanca International Mediation and Arbitration Centre (CIMAC). Dr Hussein is also a member of the International Supervisory Board of the OIC Arbitration Centre.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (FAIADR), and is accredited by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR, UK), Singapore International Mediation Institute (SIMI), and International Mediation Institute (IMI).
Dr Hussein has acted as Chairman, Sole Arbitrator, and Co-Arbitrator in a wide range of institutional and ad hoc arbitrations across sectors including construction, real estate, technology transfer, telecommunications, investment, supply chain, media, and sports. He is empaneled with numerous arbitral institutions including the ICC, AAA-ICDR, DIAC, ADCCAC, ArbitrateAD, ADGM, SIAC, QICCA, CRCICA, SCCA, WIPO, and AIADR. His mediation portfolio includes appointments under SCCA rules and the rosters of the CAO, AfDB-IRM, and EIB-CM.
In addition to his casework, Dr Hussein designs and delivers ADR capacity-building programs, legislative drafting projects, and mediator/arbitrator training across the MENA region and in particular in the KSA, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Libya, Iraq, Morocco, Egypt and internationally in collaboration with the regional and international organizations such as UNCITRAL, UNDP and CLDP. He is on the CIArb’s Approved Faculty List for teaching international arbitration and mediation under the Fellowship route.
Dr. Hussein is a thought-leader in MENA region for ADR initiatives and projects and a frequent speaker, moderator in regional and international conferences focused on the legislative, judicial and institutional dynamics of ADR and arbitration.
Dr Hussein’s research interests lie at the intersection of arbitration, mediation, and the evolving role of technology in dispute resolution. His current projects explore the governance of AI in dispute resolution systems, the integration of mediation into judicial processes in the MENA region, and comparative enforcement of arbitral awards. He has a particular focus on the adaptation of ADR frameworks in emerging markets and smart city governance. He also serves as an external examiner for PhD vivas in the field of arbitration.
