Background
Graduated with a BSc (Hons) Podiatry (First Class) awarded by the University of Sunderland in 2003, and went on to gain a PGCET postgraduate teaching qualification in 2007 and an MSc in Advanced Practice in 2010 from the same institution. She was awarded a Doctorate in Education by the Open University in 2019.

Joined Newcastle University in February 2012. As a Podiatrist, she worked as an NHS Senior II Podiatrist at Cherwell Vale PCT in Oxfordshire, and subsequently a Band 6 Specialist Podiatrist at Gateshead Health PCT. In 2005, Sonia left the NHS to take up the post of Lecturer and Podiatry Placement Co-ordinator at the Durham School of Podiatric Medicine within New College Durham.

Academic lead for the postgraduate e-learning Certificate in Medical Education. Teaches across all levels of the postgraduate Medical Education programme, with specific responsibilities as Module Leader for Teaching and Learning in the Workplace (20 credit certificate - e-learning).
