Visas for Babies Born in the UK
If you have a child born in the UK, you may wish to apply for a visa for your child. It is not mandatory for a child born in the UK to apply for a UK visa to remain in the UK. However you will need to apply if you plan to leave the UK and re-enter with your child. Additionally if you do not apply for a visa for your child they will not be covered by the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and you may be liable to pay for any healthcare required if they are over 3 months old. Please ensure you read the guidance regarding dependant applications as provided by the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA).
You will need to complete the appropriate online application form depending on where your dependant child will apply for their visa.
Please see below, the list of required supporting documents for the visa application:
- Financial evidence that covers the living expenses for your child for the remainder of months on your visa, up to a maximum of 9 months. You need to demonstrate that you have at least £680 per month for each month of the visa. This evidence can be an official financial sponsor letter with the child’s name on it; or a personal bank statement; or any other documents permitted in the PBS dependant guidance.
- Child's passport or travel document; or an explanation of why there is no passport available.
- Birth certificate showing both parents' names
- Proof of address (e.g. NHS registration card)
- Translations of any documents which are not in English or Welsh
- You may be required to provide further documents depending on your own circumstances.
- Electronic scans of each document that have been saved into PDF or JPEG format.
- Visa application fees and charges:
- £524 for standard visa application fee; and
- £776 per year for each year of the Visa for Immigration Health Surcharge.
Once you have prepared the visa application and collected the required supporting documents, you should proceed to submit the online application and book an appointment through UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services which is currently operated by TLS Contact.
