Tim Clarke

BSc Food & Human Nutrition – Graduated June 2015.

Head of Client Relations, Goal Master Fitness

I graduated from Newcastle in 2015 with a BSc in Nutrition, after which I committed myself to full-time rowing training with the aim of making the Great Britain national team. I broke into the senior ranks in 2017, attending the World Championships in the same season.

While rowing, I completed a graduate diploma in Sports Nutrition with the International Olympic Committee, it was a very useful course- giving access to the latest research from academics all around the world. Professor Tom Hill helpfully supported my application and it was great to bump into him when I attended a conference in Newcastle as part of my studies.

I rowed throughout university and Prof Tom Hill, as my tutor, and other academic staff, were always supportive and understanding of my training commitments, allowing me to perform at a high level for the university and GB age groups. I enjoyed my degree and it gave me a great education in critical thinking and the hierarchy of evidence, as well as nutrition principles. In practical terms, the group projects and presentations provided me with particular skills that help in my current role.

I retired from rowing in 2018 and now work for Goal Master, a leading London based provider of health, fitness and nutrition coaching. I deliver workshops on Nutrition, as well as contributing to the management of the company. As a start-up, it is an exciting and dynamic place to work!
