Transfer to Medicine or Dentistry

This option is open to home and international students on any of our undergraduate programmes.

Our transfer scheme

Successful applicants transfer into the first year of the Medicine or Dentistry programmes.

You can apply to transfer from any degree programme in our suite of biomedical and biomolecular programmes in the School of Biomedical, Nutritional, and Sport Sciences.

Students studying on our Sport and Exercise Science and Nutrition and Dietetics programmes are not eligible for the transfer scheme. A lecture timetabled in the December of your first year of study gives you further information regarding the transfer scheme.

Students will be selected on the basis of academic performance in the first year, their UCAT score, a personal statement and, if shortlisted, an interview.

Get more information about the Medicine transfer route and read more about the Medicine and Dentistry degree courses. Our Transfer to Medicine or Dentistry Scheme flyer may also be of help.

Harry, transferring to Dentistry in September 2020

I really enjoyed my first semester of Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle. But the time spent studying human biology further cemented Medicine as the subject that I wanted to pursue.

Anis, transferring to Medicine in September 2020

My first year at Newcastle studying Biomedical Science has been such a great experience. The course itself was interesting and all the staff were so helpful. Although I really enjoyed Biomed, I knew from the start I wanted to transfer to Medicine.

At the start of my first year, I met many students who planned to switch from Biomedical Science to Medicine. This gave me an insight into the competitive nature of the transfer scheme. It instilled in me a determination to succeed.
