Professional placement year
Professional year placements are a fantastic way to gain vital work experience and improve your employability following graduation.
Students on any of the programmes within biomedical and biomolecular sciences are eligible to apply for a professional placement year.
You can apply for a placement at the start of your second year and will start during the summer of your second year. For further information see Professional Placement Year.
Before completing my placement I had no idea what working in industry or ‘being a scientist’ was like, however now I have a great understanding. The access to resources and expertise opens up many opportunities that you would not get at university.
Your placement
You’ll learn lots of valuable skills and develop a great network of contacts for your future career. Many students return to their studies with a renewed focus and find that their results improve as a direct result.
Professional placement years include both office and laboratory roles within large pharmaceutical companies or smaller companies in the life science sector. Past placement providers include:
- Pfizer
- GSK
- AstraZeneca
- LabCorp (formerly Covance)
- Reckitt
Local companies our students have secured placements with include Proctor & Gamble, Fujifilm Diosynth and Leica Biosystems.
