Transfer to Medicine or Dentistry

This option is open to home and international students on any of our undergraduate programmes.

Our transfer scheme

Successful applicants transfer into the first year of the Medicine or Dentistry programmes.

You can apply to transfer from any degree programme in our suite of biomedical and biomolecular programmes in the School of Biomedical, Nutritional, and Sport Sciences.

Students studying on our Sport and Exercise Science and Nutrition and Dietetics programmes are not eligible for the transfer scheme. A lecture timetabled in the December of your first year of study gives you further information regarding the transfer scheme.

Students will be selected on the basis of academic performance in the first year, their UCAT score, a personal statement and, if shortlisted, an interview.

I found studying Biomedical sciences really improved my confidence in exams and in the lab which was knocked by A levels. Furthermore, studying human science and disease solidified my desire to study medicine. The teaching is excellent.

Anna, transferring to Medicine in September 2025

I really enjoyed Biomed first year - both learning scientific concepts and university life. The transfer lecture given by the University staff was very useful to understand the process and criteria to be met for the transfer to Dentistry.

Ella, transfer to Dentistry, September 2025

I believe studying biomed really helped me to understand why I wanted to study medicine and gave me the confidence to go into the course knowing what university life is like.

Lottie, transfer to Medicine, September 2025

Studying Biomed in my first year really helped me figure out how to learn from university lectures and find my systems at uni. It was the perfect route into dentistry as now I feel I have the tools and people around me to continue with my new course.
