About Ali
I am an ESRC NINE DTP funded PhD Student in Politics. Currently, I am researching the ethical implications of a natural capital approach to ecological governance. Previously, my research during my MA and BA studies have focused on political theory and Kurdish studies.
Project description
My research examines the ethical foundations and implications of natural capital discourse, with a focus on its role as both a conceptual framework and an active instrument of ecological governance. The project sits at the intersection of environmental ethics, ecological economics, and environmentality, examining how nature is rendered governable through axiological and anthropocentric rationalities.
Using the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas as a critical lens, I critique and problematise the anthropocentrism and axiology of natural capital approaches. I seek to develop a Levinasian environmental ethics framework that encourages a more ethically responsible relationship with the natural world.
Alongside my interest in environmental ethics, I am also interested in political theory, international relations, ethics, Kurdish studies, and popular culture (Particularly Ludology).
Personal interests
Outside of academia, I am an avid sports fan and enjoy gaming in my spare time.
