Newcastle Law School

Year 12 Essay Competition

Are you thinking of choosing to study for a degree in law? Is it on your radar, but you’re not sure whether you’d enjoy it? Or would you just like to put your writing skills to the test? Newcastle Law School’s Y12 Essay Competition might be for you!

Academics, in conjunction with Parklane Plowden Chambers, have chosen two questions about current legal issues for you to choose from. Simply pick one, construct your argument and let your writing flow. We’ve even provided you with some guidance about things you might want to talk about when answering. If you get your answer to us by 31st August, then you would be in with a chance of winning a cash prize and a period of work experience at Parklane Plowden – one of the north’s leading chambers.

This is an excellent opportunity to practice the skills you will be using every day as a law student or practitioner – honing those argumentation skills, showing the ability to find and use evidence to support your case and communicating to us what you think about the issues of the day. It’s also a great thing to mention in your UCAS Personal Statement – whatever subject you decide to go for at Uni.

To enter you must complete an Essay Application FormFor the essay titles, guidance and information on how to submit your essays, please see our Essay Guidance. We’re also happy to answer any other questions you have about the competition via our email:
