Dr Abimbola - Newcastle Law School's new Visiting Professor of Practice

Newcastle Law School is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Abimbola MBE as a new Visiting Professor of Practice.

31 January 2022

Dr Funke Abimbola MBE is a leading alumna of Newcastle University. She practised as a corporate law solicitor for 12 years prior to becoming a healthcare executive in the pharmaceutical sector. Funke is a Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Leader, non-executive director, BBC media commentator, Corporate lawyer, and public speaker.

In December 2017 Funke received an MBE for services to diversity in the legal profession and to young people from HRH the Prince of Wales. In 2019 the University of Hertfordshire awarded her an honorary doctor of laws for contributions to corporate and social diversity.

At Newcastle Law School, Funke will provide guest lectures on law and ethics and diversity in the legal profession. She will also continue to support our Inspirational Women of the Law project and seek to provide work experience opportunities for our students from under-represented groups at her consulting firm, The Austen Bronte Consultancy.

Dr Funke Abimbola MBE is one of our leading alumni and I am delighted that our Vice Chancellor and President has approved this Visiting Professor of Practice appointment. Professor Abimbola has been a great ambassador for the Law School and wider University for many years, as well as supporting several of our projects on advancing equality, diversity and inclusion within our School community, the legal profession and beyond. I greatly look forward to continuing to work with Professor Abimbola and for our students and colleagues to benefit from her expertise and experience in the years ahead.
