Abstract
Ebunoluwa’s research conceptualises children’s participation in the context of peace negotiations. Rooted in the growing recognition of peace agreements as instruments that both reckon with the past and shape the future, the study argues that children, given their experiences of armed conflict, social positioning, and legal right to participate in decisions affecting them, should have a voice at this critical juncture. Drawing on the experiences of children in the Truth Commissions of Sierra Leone, Timor-Leste, and Colombia, this socio-legal research interrogates the theoretical and practical steps necessary to realise children’s participation in peace negotiations. By building on these insights, the research seeks to develop a framework for meaningful child participation in peace negotiations. In doing so, it contributes both to the advancement of children’s rights in peace negotiations and to the broader agenda of inclusive and transformative peace processes.
