Research Interests
Nikki’s research interests primarily lie in the fields of rape law and policy, restorative justice and sexual violence, tort law and gender, and gender and legal education. She is particularly interested in conceptions of justice from the perspectives of rape victim-survivors and the potential of non-conventional responses to rape, such as tort law and restorative justice. A briefing of a case study into restorative justice and sexual violence, undertaken with Clare McGlynn and Nicole Westmarland (Durham University) is available here. Nikki's current research projects interrogate the concept of harm in the context of sexual violence, feminist activism, and different legal responses. With Clare Wiper (Northumbria University) she is exploring trauma-informed lawyering in the context of civil claims for sexual violence. With Colin Murray she is researching positive obligations of state bodies and the relationship between human rights and tort liability. Nikki continues research in the context of gender and legal education, particularly with regard to visual culture, as part of the ongoing Inspirational Women of the Law Exhibition she co-ordinated with Kathryn Hollingsworth (www.iwlaw.uk).
