Meet Megan
Philosophy
I chose Newcastle university for the flexibility and freedom of the course, which allows you to explore so many different areas of philosophy.
I most enjoyed the extended projects where we applied a philosophy to anything of interest - I applied theoretical feminist philosophy to some of my favourite poems and novels.
Student life at Newcastle
How did your course and experience at Newcastle University prepare you for your current role?
My degree taught me some of the essential skills for a policy career - research, critical thinking and problem solving, effective writing and communication, and the ability to distil complex ideas into something easy to understand!
What did you enjoy most about your course?
I most enjoyed the extended projects where we applied a philosophy to anything of interest - I applied theoretical feminist philosophy to some of my favourite poems and novels.
What advice would you give to students starting to explore the next steps after graduating?
My advice for students starting to explore next steps is to get out there and try different things - I never had policy on my radar as a potential career and would have never ended up here without exploring an unexpected opportunity. So, my advice would always be not to be too tied down to pre-conceived ideas!
How has your degree helped you outside of your job, in your personal life or other pursuits?
Outside of work, my Philosophy degree has helped me thoughtfully engage with a whole range of things - including how to properly digest the media I consume.
