As a registered Doctoral or MPhil student, you are encouraged to apply for financial support to undertake a wide range of personal development activities, that might not normally be available in an Academic Unit. Doctoral College Research Enhancement Funding provides support so that you can take advantage of these opportunities.
Purpose of the Doctoral College Research Enhancement Funds
The Doctoral College Enhancement Funds support a range of research-orientated activities, the funding is there to provide opportunities for Doctoral and MPhil students to enhance their experience, develop their academic profile by presenting at key conferences in their field, enhance their networking skills and to develop their career prospects.
This funding is not intended to replicate school-level funding or be used to support your research project.
There are Doctoral College Funds to support activity in the following areas:
Travel and Conference Fund
Additional Training Fund
Internship Bursary
Knowledge Transfer Bursary
Career Development Post Submission Bursary

Calls for Applications:
In order that potential applicants are provided with an opportunity to apply for support throughout the whole of the academic year, there will now be a published timetable of Calls for Applications.
There will be four calls per year
There will be a finite number/value of awards under each call. It may not be possible to support all applications and/or if supported it may not be to the level requested.
Each application will be ranked by a cross-Faculty Decision Panel made up of Postgraduate Research Deans and Doctoral College representatives.
The Doctoral College has been approved to process DBS checks with an external agency (First Advantage) if your School/Academic Unit is unable to process this for you. If this is needed contact doctoralcollege@newcastle.ac.uk
The Doctoral College Parental Leave Bursary provides funded support for Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave for Newcastle PGR University Studentship Holders.
You need to be:
in receipt of a funded stipend on or after 1st August 2021
have no other source of financial support during a period of Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave
