Cosmology

Focusing on fundamental physical processes and observations of the universe around us.

Research group focus

The Cosmology group focuses on fundamental physical processes and probes of the universe, from high-energy theories of the early universe to cosmological observables in the late-time universe.
The aim is to understand how the universe formed, and to uncover the nature of dark matter and dark energy.

Research impact

Our research is curiosity-driven and based in fundamental science. We work extensively within large observational cosmology consortia, with members of our group leading key analysis papers. We also work at the interface of cosmology and condensed matter physics, exploring laboratory-based analogues for cosmological phenomena. Members of our group use their expertise from cosmological research to collaboratively tackle data science problems in other fields, including in the medical sciences and ecology. Our work is published in leading journals and international conferences.
We have interdisciplinary specialities in:
  • data science
  • quantum technologies
  • particle astrophysics
