Studying at Newcastle
Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University?
I chose to study at Newcastle mainly due to the city and the course. The open day was by far the best I went to and was very engaging and well put together. I gained a greater insight into what life would be like as a history student in Newcastle through talking to current students.
I also fell in love with the city and the region, I think it is a great place to live with cost of living, the size of the city and friendliness of the people making it an amazing place to take the first steps away from home.
How do you think your course prepared you for your chosen career?
History has prepared me very well for a career in journalism. The writing skills I learned are put to work every day, but crucially the research skills developed studying history allow me to find new stories and angles, while also adding further depth to stories I am working on. It also gave me a clear understanding of the historical context behind many news stories, particularly in politics.
What did you enjoy most about your time at Newcastle University?
My favourite part of Newcastle University was being able to explore a wonderful city. Newcastle is truly amazing and is the perfect place to be a student.
