MA Archaeology student, Reece Garrett, has been awarded the Breeze and Dobson Award by the Hadrian’s Wall Partnership Board.

This is a prestigious award recognising excellent student research relating to Hadrian’s Wall and the Roman Frontier. Reece has been recognised for the research he conducted as part of his undergraduate dissertation.

As a result of this award, Reece will be speaking at this year’s Hadrian’s Wall Archaeology Forum in Hexham on Saturday 1 November 2025.  His talk will focus on “Hadrian’s Wall – Its Forts and their Vici, a Demographic Study”

After finding out about his ward win, Reece commented:

“I was honoured and thrilled to receive the news that my undergraduate dissertation was the winning submission for this year’s Breeze and Dobson Award.

A lot of work went into my research last year and it was nice to see that others in the field appreciated the results just as much a myself.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank my supervisor, Professor Rob Collins, for his guidance last year over the course of the study, his mentorship was invaluable.

I cannot wait for the chance to present my findings at the Hadrian’s Wall Archaeology Forum in November and to continue my research in Hadrian’s Wall studies.”
