Background

Background

Before joining NUMed last September, I taught English for secondary students in an International School in Johor Bharu. I enjoy motivating students to further improve their language skills through hands-on activities thus promoting student-centred learning. Prior to that, I was a Language Instructor teaching English to working adults from various departments within the resort that I was attached with. It has been a great experience teaching adults as they are self-motivated, flexible and are flamboyant.  Currently, I am teaching undergraduate students and is also involved in other tasks such as translations for MOSLER exams and student interviews.

     Work description:

  • To prepare lessons and teach KS3 English (Year 7-9), following the UK syllabus

  • Provide English language support to students from Years 7 to 9 mainly focusing on building up the basic grammar knowledge and speaking skills

  • Teach and prepare students taking English as a Second Language Exam, IGCSE

  • To manage the English and EAL departmental budget

  • Introduced different types of CCA’s such as Debate and Public Speaking Club

  • To monitor the overall well-being of Year 9 students, carry out Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) lessons and Community Learning Projects

  • Taught and trained hotel employees based on Training Needs Analysis

  • Created and enhanced new and existing modules based on the ADDIE model

  • Performed other admin duties such as nominations for courses, planned the annual training calendar and directory, set up previews for external courses, assisted with TNA and Gap Analysis for the various properties, update the T&D website for new courses and other news.
