Funding and Discounts
There's a variety of financial support available for students who choose to come and study at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia.
Get a 2% discount off your annual tuition fees by paying them up front and in full. For example:
- annual course tuition fee: RM110,000
- 2% tuition fee discount: RM2,200
- tuition fee you pay: RM107,800
Eligibility criteria
You'll be eligible if you pay your annual tuition fees in full before the 31 October instalment deadline.
You should always deduct the 2% discount before you make payment.
The discount applies to the proportion of fees you are personally responsible for. If you are part sponsored, you will receive the discount on the fees that you pay. Your sponsor will not receive the discount. For example:
- annual course tuition fee: RM97,850
- part sponsor pays half the fee: RM48,925
- tuition fee discount applied to your proportion of the fees: RM978.50
- annual tuition fee you pay: RM47,946.50
You will not be eligible for the 2% discount if your tuition fees are being paid for in full by:
- a tuition fee loan
- a sponsor (See definition of sponsored students in Sponsored Students page)
How to apply
The discount will be applied automatically when you pay your annual tuition fee in full.
We offer partial family discounts to encourage the family members of our current students and past graduates to pursue their studies with us.
Value of award
10% of the tuition fee per year.
Start date and duration
Duration of the degree programme.
Terms and conditions
- This discount is only available to students studying at the NUMed Malaysia campus.
- Students may only apply for a discount if they are registered as a full-time student at the University or after they have been offered a place to study on their chosen degree programme.
- Husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, fathers and mothers of alumni or current students at the university who register at NUMed Malaysia for a degree programme.
- Where two family members are intending to start their study at NUMed Malaysia only one student will be eligible to apply for the family discounts (FD) award, namely the relative who registers last. If both relatives are due to commence their degree programme in the same academic year, they must decide who will apply for the FD award.
- Candidates must become registered students at NUMed Malaysia for a degree programme. Awards cannot be made retrospectively to students for previous academic years.
- Successful applicants cannot be in receipt of any other scholarship schemes.
- Students must include information on the FD application form if they have applied for or been awarded any fully funded scholarship/sponsorship and must inform the NUMed Finance Section at the university immediately if they are awarded any fully funded scholarship/sponsorship after the FD application form has been submitted. A fully funded scholarship or full sponsorship covers fees and offers a maintenance allowance. If a student is found to be in breach of this regulation, the University will suspend any further payment of the FD to that student and may seek to recover previous payments made.
- Each discount award will be tenable for the normal duration of the programme, subject to annual review. Students must apply for the FD on a yearly basis. Renewal will be conditional upon satisfactory academic progress by the discount holder. The discount is no longer valid if a student does not pay fees or when either the discount holder or the relative does not complete their studies within the normal academic year.
- The value of the discount will normally be credited to the student’s tuition fee account. If a student is being partly sponsored for fees, a letter/email from the sponsor must be provided to give approval for the discount to be paid to the student and not deducted from the invoice sent to the sponsor for tuition fees.
- The university reserves the right to vary all or any scholarship and discount awards at its sole discretion.
- Email us for further questions on FD.

Newcastle University and NUMed Alumni may be eligible for a discount from their fees.
Value of award
20% alumni discount for all full years of study.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the alumni discount, you must be:
- Applying for/intending to study for a degree-awarding undergraduate programme at NUMed.

- Wholly or partially self-financing for the tuition fee element of your programme.
Self-financing
You are self-financing if you are paying all or part of your tuition fees yourself. We regard you as self-financing if you have support from a friend or relative and/or you are in receipt of other funding towards your studies.
This funding may include scholarships*, tuition fee discounts*, bursaries* or any other contribution towards your study costs. Students in receipt of such funding support will only receive the discount on the balance of the tuition fee not covered by the funding support.
(*) Some exclusions apply. It is not always possible to combine the Alumni Tuition Fee Discount and other sources of partial funding. See 'Funding that disqualifies you from the Alumni Tuition Fee Discount' below for a list of non-eligible University schemes.
The Alumni Tuition Fee Discount is deducted from your tuition fees in the following order:
- Faculty/School awards
- Alumni tuition Fee Discount
- Early payment discount
Details of the discount
- Applicants for the Alumni Tuition Fee Discount must be beginning their studies on a qualifying programme of study at NUMed.
- Awards cannot be made retrospectively and must be awarded during the admission process or the first year of study at NUMed.
- If the discount scheme changes part way through your degree (eg we introduce a new percentage discount), you will stay on the discount scheme applied at the start of your degree.
- Alumni discount is valid only when candidates register for studies during the academic year specified in their offer letter.
- 20% alumni discount will apply for all full years of study.
- 20% alumni discount applies only to the net fee that a student would otherwise pay – that is, after any other scholarships or award from the University have been deducted.
- 20% discount on tuition fees is not transferable. The University does not permit the 20% fee discount to be used for any other purpose.
- It is the duty of the student to tell the University if s/he has applied for or obtains funding for his/her tuition fees. If we find a student in breach of this regulation, the University is entitled to suspend any further discount at once and may seek to recover any or all amounts of previous payments made.
- The University reserves the right to vary or withdraw the alumni discount at its sole discretion

- Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences
