About Zoe's career
What is your current role?
I am a political reporter working in UK parliament. My job consists of research, writing, interviewing politicians and political figures, and lots of networking. I also coordinate our social media output and run a newsletter where I interview a political figure each week.
What do you enjoy about your job?
It's a privilege to work in the heart of UK politics and I get extraordinary access to top politicians including ministers, shadow ministers, and celebrity figures. Every day is different.
Writing and research skills are fundamental for any journalist, and specialising in contemporary political history armed me with knowledge that is directly applicable for my work as a political reporter
Studying History at Newcastle University
Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University?
Newcastle is high in the league tables for History and I loved the course and campus when I visited on an Open Day.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
The wide variety of regions across the world that were covered and the wide range of choice.
How did studying History at Newcastle University prepare you for your current role?
Writing and research skills are fundamental for any journalist, and specialising in contemporary political history armed me with knowledge that is directly applicable for my work as a political reporter.
What advice would you give to new students?
Demonstrating commitment to your studies and extra-curricular activities will be so much more important to your future than getting the perfect grade on every assignment. Just try your best and explore as many options as you can during your degree, as it's the perfect time to do so.
