Produced by Local Heroes and filmed by Dan Prince, the documentary premieres at the Old Low Light, North Shields, on Saturday 10th October.
The film follows sculptor Keith Barrett as he creates the bronze memorial honouring Mary Ann, who escaped slavery in Virginia and found freedom in North Shields.
The event is being held during Black History Month and offers members of the public a first opportunity to see the film and hear directly from those involved in bringing Mary Ann’s story back to the town, as one of North Tyneside’s most remarkable, yet once overlooked, historical figures.
Two FREE screenings: 1.30pm & 3pm
Followed by a Q&A with sculptor Keith Barrett, filmmaker Dan Prince and a panel of historians, including Dr Lauren Darwin and Dr Genevieve Johnson.
