Athanassios Vergados received his first degree in Classics at the University of Athens and pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Virginia. Before joining Newcastle University he taught in the USA and in Germany. His research interests include Greek poetry (esp. hymnic and didactic), ancient etymology and linguistic thought, and papyrology. He is keen to hear from prospective research students who wish to work on topics in Greek language and literature or ancient etymology.
