Introduction
Office days are all day Tuesday and all day Thursday during term time. To book a consultation or make an inquiry about ways in which I might be able to help, either email or call. I’m also running group sessions on essay writing, so watch our for notices: these will be on Wednesday afternoons in Weeks 3, 5 and 7.
Background
Max Adams trained as an archaeologist and excavated for many years in the UK and abroad. After a spell as a woodsman and broadcaster he took up writing, which he intersperses with teaching and travelling.
Max is best known for his biographies of Admiral Collingwood (Weidenfeld 2004) and the London circle of Northumbrian painter John Martin, whom he calls The Prometheans (Quercus 2010) - a Guardian Book of the Week when first published in hardback. He has published widely in academic journals and popular magazines. He has just completed his third novel, The Ambulist.
His interests include Early Medieval Northumbria, the cultures of nomadism, the history and natural history of trees and woods, and the history of science and technology. He plays drums and Appalachian dulcimer in various bands.
Roles and Responsibilities
The purpose of the Fellowship is to provide free, confidential and dispassionate advice to students at all levels who would like help with any academic writing issues, from spelling and grammar through to prose style, argument structure and essay planning. Students who would like to enhance the clarity or strength of their prose can book up to three sessions with Max. Because the Fellowship is entirely independent of the School, your work in these sessions won’t be seen or marked by your tutors. What they will see is an improvement in the quality of your essays.
The RLF Fellow also offers a wide range of self-help resources for students to use in their own time.
