The largest and oldest HE institution with just under 3,400 academic staff and over 23,000 students. The university has many social traditions that contribute to university life and encourage active participation at the university.

Vilnius is one of the largest old town centres in Eastern Europe and boasts 8 protected nature reserve. Vilnius Old Town was declared a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1994.
