Why did you choose to study your course at Newcastle University?

It's a great university with a good reputation with employers. There is a lot of diversity in terms of available courses and hence you can develop a great network.

Craig

There are also lots of resources available. I found the FT subscription, language school and library all helpful. Finally, the north-east is the most friendly part of the UK.

What did you like the most about your course?

Breadth of modules - in third year I had a wide variety of courses available to choose from. I was pleased to have the option of writing a dissertation despite studying a numerically dense subject.

How would you describe the city of Newcastle upon Tyne?

The greatest city in the UK. A true hidden gem. I contest it is the best-kept secret of the British Isles.

Where do you work now and what does your role involve?

Exotix Capital - Investment Banking Team. Structuring Debt and Equity transactions in frontier market jurisdictions.

My role involves:

  • participating in client/investor meetings
  • running financial models
  • performing valuation analysis
  • preparing teasers/pitchbooks
  • structuring debt

How do you feel your course or other activities you were involved in at Newcastle contributed to you achieving your career goals?

The course allowed me to develop sharp numerical skills I use every day in financial analysis. I also developed professional writing skills which are critical whenever I create pitchbooks, information memorandums and teasers. Attending careers events also helped me understand how to differentiate myself during the graduate application process.

What support did you have from the Careers Service during your time at Newcastle?

I used the graduate skills module in third year to enhance my graduate applications. I also attended events from PWC, KPMG, Deloitte and E&Y which allowed me to network efficiently.
