A Token for Mental Wellbeing

The month of October signifies World Mental Health Day X Depression Awareness Month. The Student Support Team (SST), led by Manjari Ryali, Dean of Student Affairs; collaborated with the Student Association (SA), led by Ms. Maisarah Rosli, Student Support Coordinator; and the Psychiatry Association to commemorate this event and promote the all-important ‘Make Mental Health and Wellbeing for All a Global Priority’ theme.

The week-long series of events took place from the 13th to the 19th of October and drew a large crowd of students and faculty. As a token of appreciation for their participation in this noble event, they were each given an enamel pin with the words 'Mental Health Matters and End the Stigma’. To further brighten up the occasion, the SST created their own t-shirts with a mental health theme.

The events included My Thoughts Tree, a mindfulness session workshop, a String of Boundaries activity, a Laughter Yoga activity by Kelab Sosial Riang Gembira, and an informative talk on pre-menstrual syndrome. A free depression and anxiety screening was also held on campus on the 17th of October.

In the near future, SST intends to open up events to other educational institutions in EduCity, hold more laughter yoga workshops, organise a run-in support of World Mental Health Day, and conduct workshops and training on mental health-related topics.
