Striving To Keep The Environment Clean

A clean environment is essential to sustain life and Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) understands the importance of maintaining a clean environment to reduce pollution, protect endangered species, and contribute to the preservation of the earth's natural resources for future generations.

As a socially responsible educational institution, NUMed Foundation students conducted a Beach Cleaning Programme at Pantai Batu Layar in Kota Tinggi, Johor, on the 7th of October 2022 to create awareness about the environment, specifically the beach and ocean.

Part of the annual Community Outreach Programme, the beach cleaning was a great opportunity for the students to engage and socialize with the local community while spreading information and knowledge about the environment as a whole. The programme also encouraged rapport between participants.

Teamwork was fostered as the students worked in groups helping each other to clean the beach. In addition to collecting rubbish and other waste, these students gained new knowledge about the kinds of waste and objects that could endanger the lives of animals in the ocean.

CSR activities like this beach clean-up encourages students to pursue environmental awareness in addition to academic excellence in medical sciences. Initiatives like this go beyond an individual's personal development but also benefit the entire community and inspire them further to contribute to environmental preservation.
