Biomedical sciences stands at the forefront as one of the most diverse fields in the realm of health sciences and modern medicine, offering plenty of opportunities for growth and advancement in a variety of areas including human and animal healthcare and research.

Knowledge in biomedical sciences equips graduates with new perspectives for comprehending the basic mechanisms behind human anatomy and other living things. The pathophysiological and pathological mechanisms that underlie disease are also better understood with thorough comprehension of biomedical sciences.

Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) is one of a few universities in Malaysia to offer the 2+1 BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences (BMS). The BMS programme at NUMed covers various aspects of medical sciences, including biochemistry, genetics, physiology, immunology, and pharmacology, mirroring the curriculum standards offered at its parent campus, Newcastle University, UK.

In the UK, the BMS programme is ranked in the top 10 for Biomedical Sciences in the UK – The Guardian University Guide 2023. Furthermore, the university is ranked in the top 125 for Life Sciences in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2022.

According to Dr. Madihah Rushaidhi, Associate Professor and Dean of Biomedical Sciences at NUMed, a career in Biomedical Sciences makes a real difference in the world as graduates of the study will be at the forefront of developing medications and other related investigations.

NUMed’s BMS students are given the privilege to complete their initial two academic years locally before relocating to the UK campus for the completion of their final year. This opens doors for a truly global educational experience.

Rather than just a career in healthcare sciences, the BMS programme unlocks a versatile career roadmap for students upon graduation. The program's multidisciplinary approach gives students an in-depth understanding of the human anatomy as well as hands-on experience working in a real laboratory.

In addition to applying their knowledge in various health science fields, such as advancing new medications, discovering new diseases and developing new medical technologies, graduates will also gain knowledge that is indispensable in other fields. For instance, graduates of biomedical sciences may go into academia, business, or even law firms.

Additionally, NUMed also equips BMS graduates with crucial skills such as research abilities, which include finding and understanding current scientific terms, as well as practical laboratory skills, data analysis and presentation, and critical analysis that can be beneficial in many real-world situations.
